Hyatt Regency New Orleans
Six years - and $275 million - after Hurricane Katrina, the Hyatt Regency New Orleans has reopened. All 1,193 rooms (including 95 suites) in the 32-story hotel have been completely renovated. The redesign also includes the 200,000+ square feet of meeting and event space available in the hotel. All those rooms require plenty of dining space, so the Hyatt Regency offers the 8 Block Kitchen and Bar, Vitascope Hall (sports bar), Borgne (restaurant by Chef John Besh), a 65 seat Starbucks, the Lagniappe Exchange, Whole Hot Cafe and Pizza Consegna.
Norwegian Cruises from Tampa
Norwegian Cruise Line began cruises from Tampa this week. The Norwegian Star offers 7-day round-trip western Caribbean cruises that stop at Roatan, Belize, Costa Maya and Cozumel. Carnival, Holland America and Royal Caribbean also have cruises from this busy Gulf of Mexico port in Florida. Learn more about all the cruise options from Tampa at our Tampa Cruise Guide.
This Week's New (or Improved) Hotels
The Fairmont Pacific Rim is the latest ultra-luxury hotel to open in Vancouver (that gives them seven 5-star hotels in town). 70% of the 337 rooms in the spectacular glass tower offer great views of the harbour and mountains. Take a minute to check out the piano in the lobby - just so you can say that you've seen a $225,000 piano.
The 187 guest rooms and suites of the Doubletree by Hilton Charlotte have been given a thorough renovation, with a modernized design, improved lighting and furniture and new Citron "body and bath amenities". The Doubletree is located on the northwest side of downtown Charlotte, next door to Johnson and Wales University.
