Carnival Cruise Lines to Spend $300 Million to Improve Reliability

This week Carnival Cruise Lines announced it will spend $300 million to enhance emergency power capabilities, introduce new fire safety technology, and improve operating redundancies across its 24-ship fleet. An additional emergency power generator will be installed on every ship to provide for 100 percent of stateroom and public toilets, fresh water and elevators in the event of a loss of main power. All ships will also have two separate redundant engine rooms, to decrease the chance of losing propulsion or primary power. The upgrades are already underway. Carnival offers cruises from many ports, including Miami, where it has 6 ships.
