There's more to Tennessee's largest city than music, but the opportunities to experience musical performances in Nashville are pretty hard to ignore. The historic home of the Grand Ole Opry, the Ryman Auditorium, still hosts a wide variety of musicians throughout the year. The Schermerhorn Symphony Center is the home of the Nashville Symphony but its schedule has plenty of non-classical music. During the warmer months, you can enjoy performances outdoors at the Ascend Amphitheater on the waterfront on the north edge of downtown. Smaller venues offer live music nightly along downtown's Broadway.
While the Ryman is the original home of the Grand Ole Opry, you need to travel out to the northeast side of town to attend current Opry performances at the Grand Ole Opry House at Opryland. It's a bit like having to go to an amusement park on Long Island to
see the Rockettes.
And there are other reasons to visit Nashville. The Tennessee State Capitol is just a few blocks northwest of downtown. Nissan Stadium, home of the NFL's Tennessee Titans, is on the opposite side of the Cumberland River from downtown. Prestigious Vanderbilt University has a large campus less than two miles southwest of
downtown.
