Seattle:
Northwest Adventure
|
|
|
Seattle has several nicknames, including Rain City and Emerald City, with the rain playing a large part in the city's emerald green-ness. Located in the northwest corner of Washington between the Puget Sound and the Cascade Mountains, Seattle has a reputation as an interesting blend of urban sophistication and natural beauty. Notable landmarks range from the heights of the Space Needle to the waterfront
Pike Place Market. It's a long drive from other major US metropolitan areas, so most visitors arrive at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
Seattle is home to sports teams in the National Hockey League, National Football League, Major League Soccer and Major League Baseball. Lumen
Field (home to both kinds of football) and T-Mobile Park (baseball) are located next
door to each other on the south side of downtown. Climate Pledge Arena is the home of the NHL's Seattle Kraken. Originally known as Key Arena, it was almost
completely rebuilt in 2021 with only the iconic roof retained.
Two of the best known "tech" companies, Amazon and Microsoft, are based in the Seattle area. Amazon's headquarters is downtown while Microsoft's vast central campus is a few miles to the east in Redmond. The main campus of the University of Washington is on the northeast side of town.
